India Mission Report - 2013

We were so blessed this year to be with the children in the following villages. Some students also put forth some challenging questions and they were blessed by this ministry.

Mallikuttai, Dharmapurai, S.India

ASA conducted Inter school basketball tournament for boys and girls for the third year in a row. 144 youth participated in this event. Miraculously the school got a sponsorship for laying a concrete basketball court. We had originally laid a mud court. The kids enjoyed playing in the upgraded court. Our team did a puppet show in between the games and shared the Good news. Rev. Dr. Balaji had accompanied us and he gave the Gospel message after the puppet show.

Nazareth, Tirunelveli Dist., S. India

ASA partnered with Jesus Redeems Ministry, Nalumavadi and conducted a school level football tournament for boys. 8 teams from the local village schools participated. About 160 pupils heard the gospel through this event. Mr. Appadurai, who assists Bro. Mohan C. Lazarus (founder of Jesus Redeems ministry) prayed and blessed the event. Students from diverse backgrounds witnessed the tournament and heard the Gospel. We distributed Gospel literature to all the participants. Winners were given soccer balls as individual prizes.

Meiganapuram, Tirunelveli Dist

Here ASA conducted a floodlight volley ball tournament for high school boys. 96 teens attended the tournament. We shared about the love of Christ and about salvation. We got a good response from the boys and many of them had questions to ask of us.

Please continue to pray for the future Events:

  • Two more schools need basketball courts – Nalumavadi (mud court) &
Paavoorchatram – has a mud court but needs concrete court)
  • A place of our own to do the sports activities in one place thus enabling children from lower economic groups to develop their talents so that we could build and improve the community.
As of October, 2012

We thank and praise God for having given us the opportunity to serve Him in the

Dharmapuri, S. India:

Basketball Tournament for boys & girls (77 children)

Day 1- there were limited participants since the school teachers had to take up an exam and there was no one to bring the girls’ team over from other villages. In spite of that, the girls had a very competitive game and among them we found several girls, who had the tenacity and determination to play hard & win. They were all from very poor families, whose parents were daily wage earners. The home team that we had selected & trained in the past years, beat the other schools and won the trophy.

Day 2- there were many participants for the boys’ tournament and they were very competitive and played hard. All players were from neighboring poor villages. It was fun to see the sportsmanship and determination in these kids.

On both days, after the morning games were over, a nutritious meal was provided to the players. We then shared with them the love of God and gave them a copy of the New Testament. Almost 99% of the children were from diverse backgrounds and listened very intently to the gospel message of love. When we distributed the gospel bracelets (friendship bracelets), they very enthusiastically put them on.

  • Some very talented and gifted sportsmen were identified and given continued training at ASA’s cost.

    awards.
  • A new basketball team was selected for the college.

Future Projects :

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Ennore, Chennai, S. India

ASA has taken the responsibility to uplift & improve the youth of the villages surrounding this company. We would use sports as a tool to love on them & change the evil ways of the wayward youth. Financial support is given by the company.

As of September, 2011

By God’s immense grace we were able to complete our mission work in the villages of South India during the months of August & September, 2011 – at Mallikuttai (Dharmapuri Dist.), Tuticorin, Paavoorchatram, and Red Hills, Chennai. We conducted basketball & soccer coaching camps and tournaments in these places. The children were fed with nutritious food while in the camp and above everything they also heard about the love of Christ. We distributed sports jerseys and shoes to the players, which brought big smiles on their faces! It was truly very rewarding to see all the eager participants, who had so much enthusiasm and interest in sports and love for each other. We were greatly blessed to be with these young ones and what the Lord said, “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me” kept resonating in our hearts. We thank our Lord for this opportunity to serve Him and we thank all those who have supported us in this ministry. We also conducted a soccer coaching camp along with Vic Parks Team, (Australia) at Don Bosco, Red Hills, Chennai, South India. There were 90 participants from various regions of India. The boys were given the gospel, accommodation, and food.

Now that the team had been selected, they were given sports uniforms (for all 4 teams).

Shalom Matriculation School, Paavoorchatram, India:

God has been gracious in providing a basketball court here also. Coaching
